Traditionally, the school has always placed special emphasis on offering its students—in addition to the regular curriculum—every opportunity to engage with the most interesting aspects of Italian life and culture.
In addition to the regular classes offered in various courses, a series of optional cultural and recreational programs is available every day, allowing students to fully appreciate and enjoy their stay in Florence and Italy.

Museum visits, attending shows and concerts, excursions to Tuscany and other Italian cities of art, film screenings, lectures on various cultural topics, dinners at trattorias, meetings with Italian students, visits to markets, and social evenings are always organized with the participation of the teachers, who serve not only an educational function but also—and above all—a role in inspiring and leading these activities.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

The study of the Italian language is the school’s main focus, and it offers programs tailored to individual needs throughout the year. In addition to language instruction, the Michelangelo School in Florence also offers a wide range of elective courses on Italian culture, art history, current events, and customs.

The Italian language courses at the Michelangelo School, which run year-round and offer six progressive levels of Italian (from absolute beginners to the Diploma level), enable rapid learning of Italian through intensive programs all focused on the practical use of modern Italian. These programs are designed for absolute beginners who need to start from scratch, those with some prior knowledge, and those who wish to refine their language skills. Classes are held in the morning for 4 hours a day (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.), and each course requires a minimum enrollment period of 2 weeks.

The advanced Italian language course organized by the school welcomes, each year, Italian teachers, students who have already earned the Institute’s diploma, and those who, having already completed a comprehensive education in the Italian language, wish to attend an intensive specialization course in Italian in Florence.

Art History courses are taught in Italian and in English for absolute beginners. They offer engaging programs focused on understanding, analyzing, and gaining a historical perspective on Italy’s artistic heritage, from the Greek and Roman periods to the Renaissance. Each course includes regular visits to major museums, art galleries, and monuments in Florence, Tuscany, and central Italy.

The Italian culture courses offered by the Michelangelo schools can be combined with Italian language courses and are held in the afternoon two days a week. They offer students a wide range of interesting topics to study and explore in depth under the guidance of expert teachers in various fields: literature, history, and customs.

The art courses, which are also open to Italian students, are held in the historic and authentic studios on the ground floor of the school. Each art course is also open to students who are complete beginners.

The Italian cooking class, held in the school’s well-equipped kitchen, is a fun and interesting opportunity to take advantage of during your stay in Florence to learn how to prepare the most typical and interesting dishes of Tuscan and Italian cuisine.
The cooking classes are also a fun way to practice conversation and a great way to practice the Italian language in a fun setting.
